GE Smallworld version 4.2 has already been released, and it comes with new functionalities that allow users to work more easily.

The main new features in Smallworld 4.2 are:

Authorization

Enhancements to authorization settings including control over translation of authorization predicates.

Conflict management

When changes are made to the same object in different alternatives, non-conflicting changes can be identified and a new window has been added for automatic conflict resolution.

The utilities provided by the List of Affected Objects dialog box have been merged into an updated version of the Conflict Viewer dialog box.

Changes in Case Data Model and Case Tool

With the addition of heterogeneous relationships, it is now possible to define a relationship that can include multiple object classes at both ends of this relationship. When querying a combined field on an object you can return an object or a collection of objects, from several different tables.

The Case Tool is now available in the Smallworld application window. The graphical user interface for the Case Tool has been reimplemented using an application window with the appropriate plugins.

Upgrade of data base

The management of database updates is reinforced and improved. A data model tools dialog box allows the database administrator to control the application updates in a local database, and to manage the merging of data model changes for all updateable alternatives.

Datastore changes

Improvements in swmfs and ds_transfer.

Development tools

Some new tools, What do you have running and what not?, Are available in the development tools application

Geometry improvements

The Geometry manipulation plugin offers a Geometry Operations toolbar. Additionally, copying objects from the database using the transform mechanism has been improved.

Graphic representation of styles

A new graphical representation of styles provides better graphics quality for Windows systems using anti-aliasing and alpha blending for cleaner lines to smooth fills and transparency effects. This is supported by the improved representation of transient data, such as trace and highlighted geometry.

Job server

The task server has been extended and improved in this version and is now included as part of Smallworld Core. The Task Server and Viewer Server are available for activation in the Administration (Extended) application and available help topics.

Professional applications and their plugins

There is a wide range of improvements and changes in this area. In particular, raster enhancements to any of the color compressed bitmap formats: JPEG, GeoTiff, and TIFF (compressed and uncompressed). There are also improvements to print layouts.

Spatial Queries and Database Worlds

The ability to perform spatial queries across database worlds has been improved.

Enumerated fields

The assigned value of an enumerated field can be a unit value, and in addition, catalog-limited fields can now support units.

Management Module

The smallworld_product class is extended to support multiple versions of the same product. Resources from different versions of the same module can be accessed.

Configuration installation

The setup application is now part of the swaf.msf image and, at startup, is displayed in the Application Manager dialog box, along with the CASE tool. The setup application also contains Smallworld Module Manager and a new tool for building images.

Supported platforms

Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 are also supported in this version. Support has been removed for

 Windows 2000 and UNIX Tru64.

ZEHPlot

The compatible version of ZEHPlot ® is now 1.5.3.
